I’m Red and I’m a serving member of the RAAF. I’ve done some 29 years in the ADF starting out in the ARes before joining the Air Force.
I started doing living history when I was in 4/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse Regiment in Bairnsdale in Victoria as our troop had a bunch of guys who were interested and hey, the Army was willing to support it. Moved to Tassie in 1985 and joined the (then) 12th Independent Rifle Coy, Royal Tasmanian Regiment (Youngtown) where an even smaller bunch of guys did very little living history as 12th Bn AIF. Joined the Air Force in 1987 and ended up portraying AFC with a RAAF drill team in Melbourne. Got back into living history many years later when I was posted to Sydney and ended up joining AGWA. Not doing anywhere near as much re-enactment as I’d like to these days.
I currently portray 12th Bn AIF although can easily do dismounted LH or most other WW1 diggers, albeit older troops!! Might start a Chelsea Pensioners Living History Group if there is enough interest!!
About to go back to work from holidays and about to be very busy indeed readying for another deployment. All my gear is packed up and I'll be gone for 6 months so no living history for me anytime soon.
